How does a parent explain temporary pain to a child?
The importance of shots, the lingering ache of surgery, and especially – the uncomfortable ear popping pain of air travel?
That most of this pain is all so fleeting, and worth the undertaking.
Maybe it is the same with us.
Maybe our pain will be over soon too?
What if you are being held right now and your father is whispering that it’s all ok?
“Everything will be over soon. And when we arrive all of this will have been worth it.”
I turned around to see how the mother was handling it. I saw her holding the baby to her chest with her head leaned back, tears running down her face. How could she properly explain to the child that soon they would be at their destination and the pain would cease?
