I just came across a Texas Monthly article about West Texas artist Boyd Elder.
It jumped out because he is based in Valentine, TX
I mean, come on, the last population count I saw was under 200 people.
I, however, have family there and have been multiple times.
Elder is most famous for designing the album cover for the Eagles, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975).
He also designed the cover to another Eagles album: One of These Nights.
Their Greatest Hits was the top-selling album of the twentieth century in the United States. More than 29 million copies have been purchased. Throw in the 9 million copies that the other two albums have sold, and that’s more than 38 million people who have held Elder’s art in their hands.
Crazy if you think about it.
If I’d have gotten a nickel for each album the Eagles sold, I’d have been all right,” he says.
I got to Googling about him today though and found out he passed away three days ago.
Wish I had run into him somewhere before he left.
I don’t know.
Maybe I did.
