An artist should raise prices when:
They start resenting their clients.
This made me laugh, but it’s true!
If you are a photographer and dread when that one client calls, ask yourself this:
What do I need to charge to be happy to take their call?
Well, go charge that! This obviously applies to any artist.
Cringe working with a certain editor?
“I’m sorry, but my fees have increased.”
If you think about it, higher prices might both change our attitude and weed out some of the bad apples.
“When I notice myself resenting my clients and wanting to quit,” Melissa Dinwiddie said, “I realize I don’t need to quit. I just need to raise my prices. If you’re feeling resentment at all, you’re charging too little.”
