This, I believe, is the best way to teach your children about grace.
Tell them over and over again – their entire lives – that your love is not dependent on how they act.
Sure, some actions have consequences.
But nothing that they do will change your love for them – that’s grace.
We teach children how to succeed but not to fail —often by example. Unless taught differently, girls will believe their acceptance is based on their performance. When they accept their failure and feel loved in spite of that failure, their acceptance will be based on something deeper. Failure is a means by which they —and we, as adults —discover more about grace.
