The Two Best Prayers

These two best prayers made me laugh.

They are perfect.

1. “Help me, help me, help me,”
2. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Personally, my prayers border on simply a list of thank-yous.

The “help me” requests always feel so selfish, like I’m tossing coins and a wishing well.

To tell you the truth though, this is about as complicated as prayer needs to be most of the time.

Here are the two best prayers I know: “Help me, help me, help me,” and “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” A woman I know says, for her morning prayer, “Whatever,” and then for the evening, “Oh, well,” but has conceded that these prayers are more palatable for people without children.
