Joy Of Writing

I hope you write for the joy of writing.

Maybe you write for the cathartic way that writing allows you to explore new ideas and wrestle with old ideas.

I hope you use it as a creative outlet and that you eventually get paid for what you write.

But most of all, I hope you do it for the simple joy of it.

Like laying in bed early in the morning before the day starts, and taking long lunches, my desire for you – for me – is a writing life filled with spending our days on something we enjoyed, something that brought us purpos.

And – yes – of course, I hope you do it forever.

I have written because it fulfilled me. Maybe it paid off the mortgage on the house and got the kids through college, but those things were on the side—I did it for the buzz. I did it for the pure joy of the thing. And if you can do it for joy, you can do it forever.

-Stephen King, On Writing
