We Do Nothing

We Do Nothing

We do nothing when we are scared don’t we?

Particularly, I think, when we are scared of failure.

I don’t know why, but fear becomes this paralyzing drug that never allows us to even begin.

The certainty of the shadows become comforting in a way that can become too familiar.

But the risk here is not in the unknown. The risk is never doing anything, and nothing ever happening. The risk is in regret.

If starting is the hardest part though, not giving up has to be a close second.

Life can be frustrating. Oftentimes we know what our problems are. We may even know what to do about them. But we fear that taking action is too risky, that we don’t have the experience or that it’s not how we pictured it or because it’s too expensive, because it’s too soon, because we think something better might come along, because it might not work. And you know what happens as a result? Nothing. We do nothing.

-Ryan Holiday, The Obstacle Is The Way
