Having Something To Say

Having Something To Say

[This is part of the series: 20 Writing Tips From John Erickson]

More often than not, having something to say comes with time and experience.

It makes sense that the longer you live the more material and experience you will have to draw on.

But it’s two-fold.

The more time you spend practicing writing (and reading), the more you will see how nearly any topic can be interesting if looked at in the right way.

I mean, maybe nobody else likes it, but I think I found an amusing way to write a post about shoelaces.

Go live your life! Write about it as you go. And read everything you can get your hands on!

11. A writer should have something to say.

-John Erickson, Story Craft (Amazon)
