Don’t Know Jerry Weintraub

If you don’t know Jerry Weintraub, you should.

His autobiography When I Stop Talking You’ll Know I’m Dead (Amazon) with Rich Cohen is superb.

(Rich Cohen is also superb.)

Funny how people you read, know people you read.

Diana and I ended up writing not only several drafts of a script about Pretty Boy, but a novel about him as well. Jerry Weintraub didn’t like our script, on the (to us) odd grounds that he seemed too much of a hick. Since Pretty Boy grew up in eastern Oklahoma, in a town of less than one thousand residents, it’s hard to know how he could have escaped being a hick; so exit Jerry Weintraub, or maybe it should be enter Larry and Diana.

-Larry McMurtry, Hollywood (Amazon)
