Hermes 3000

If you don’t know, a Hermes 3000 is a straight up classic typewriter.

I mean, it debuted in 1958!

Funny that a writer would thank their typewriter in an acceptance speech – but I kind of get it.

You spend enough of your time working with a certain tool and you can almost see it as a partner in your work.

Like a construction worker having a favorite hammer…

OF THE IMPORTANT awards the one we dominated was the Golden Globes. We won best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay, etc. . . . on and on. I gamely thanked my Hermes 3000 for my award, mentioning that for thirty years it had saved me from the dry embrace of the computer. Harrison Ford, who presented our award, liked that and said, “Nicely put,” as we walked offstage.

-Larry McMurtry, Hollywood (Amazon)
