Are you being laid off?
I can’t imagine it. What a powerless feeling it must be.
From both ends probably?
First, you have a company thinking that it has little choice as it fights for survival.
And then you have an employee that has to go home and potentially explain it to their family.
Let’s always have mountains of empathy in this arena.
Because I do know this: Long-term unemployment is awful.
Here is a note on the job search that comes next.
The layoffs were painful. I keep looking back at how they could have been avoided, which is a fool’s errand. Instead, I try to focus on this one truth: if they hadn’t happened, Moz might not have survived, and far more people would have lost their jobs. I believe layoffs were the right thing to do, but the financial and strategic decisions we made that put us on that path were absolutely wrong.
