Maybe we should try smiling?
The idea of actively smiling while I talk seems weird though.
I get, of course, that smiling is contagious.
And that you smile sometimes here and there while you talk.
But try smiling throughout your next entire conversation.
It feels about like I’m at a business meeting in a pair of shorts and forgot both my cell phone and wallet at home.
It’s worth a try though.
If I had a fraction of Andy Andrews success I would consider myself accomplished.
“I do this all the time when I speak. I’ll walk around the room as I’m talking and look people in the eye, nod, and smile. Soon I’ll have fifty or sixty people nodding with me in unison, because when you nod and smile at them, they will smile and nod back. You want people to join the church softball team? You want them to buy the house from you? You want them to sign the deal? You want them to be clients forever? You want them to contribute to a cause? Learn to smile while you talk! The same positive results will transpire with your family. Your spouse, your kids, your neighbors—everybody will react to you differently when you smile as you talk.”
-Andy Andrews, The Seven Decisions
