If you don’t know it, your children are internally screaming for you to read aloud to them (even if they don’t know it yet).
It’s about joy. It’s about imagination. It’s about showing them how to create a world in their minds that the television is incapable of.
Shower them with books. Give them your books. Take them to borrow books.
Let your kids steal them from you if they need the adventure of it…
Honestly, being read to is a form of being loved. I think.
I hope you have vivid childhood memories of a loved one reading aloud to you too.
In the afternoon, she read aloud to me, mostly Hurlbut’s Stories From the Bible. At the age of five, my heroes were David, Samuel, Joseph, Samson, and Moses. And more than once, she closed the book and said, “John, God has given you a talent too. You must guard it and use it wisely.”
