In the end, if you can’t write (or don’t want to write) – you’re are not a writer.
It does not get more simple than that.
For writers love words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, chapters, and the arc of a story.
Annie Dillard referred to this exact same idea (by way of Julian Barnes).
This is, of course, in reference to “writer’s block.”
Surely the darkness will pass. If it doesn’t, if you still don’t have anything to say, then maybe you’ve said it all and you’re not supposed to be a writer. It won’t be the end of the world. Most of the people on this planet aren’t writers and they seem to be doing all right.
