Hey. It’s Friday!
This week I read:
The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods
By: Hank Haney
Three Rivers Press; Reprint edition (March 12, 2013)
272 pages
Talk about a tell-all. This book is fair, but it does not hold back. The Big Miss offers a fantastic, behind the curtain view, into maybe the greatest golfer to ever live. Author Hank Haney spent 6 years as Tiger Wood coach. Be amazed at the eccentricities, and shake your head at Wood’s fall from perfection. All I know is that when my children play golf one day, I hope Hank Haney is their teacher.
Two of my favorite quotes:
“Tiger Woods is sullen the fist time I meet him Maybe even a little rude. But also, without a doubt, fascinating.”
“As I reflected back, I realized that I’d never thought of Tiger as happy. Whether with friends, business associates, other players, his mother, or his wife-indeed, with just about everyone except an audience of kids at one of his clinics-he seemed to keep the atmosphere around him emotionally arid. Part of it was the insane drive that was vital to his greatness. It seemed the longer he was the best, the more isolated and lonely he became.“
