I mean, who has the time to read bills they are voting on?
This made me think of a scene in the animated movie Madagascar.
Stay with me now…
Alex The Lion is trying to understand that he and his friends are not in a zoo, but have been shipwrecked in the wild of Madagascar island.
He asks King Julian, the leader of the lemurs:
Hold up there a second fuzzbucket. You man like, uh, the “live in a mud hut, wipe yourself with a leaf” type of wild?
Julian responds:
Who wipes?!
He could not have said it better.
How do you have time to read all the bills that come through?
Who reads?!
I like an idea I heard of requiring no bill passed to be longer than two pages in 12 point font.
Fundraising is so time-consuming I seldom read any bills I vote on. I don’t even know how they’ll be implemented or what they’ll cost. My staff gives me a last-minute briefing before I go to the floor and tells me whether to vote yea or nay. How bad is that?
