The hardest part of war is watching your friends and family get hurt or die.

This also happens to be the hardest part of the rest of life too.

Work can be hard, stress can be high, and plans can get cancelled.

But all that fades away when someone we love is suffering.

Often, life is never the same – with a limp.

He also talked about being in war. He said the hard part wasn’t the missions or carrying all that gear or being afraid—he said the hard parts were the times when his friends got hurt or killed.

God Gives Job Double Everything, Except This?

Did you know that in the book of Job in the Bible, God gives Job back double of everything he lost?

Except for his children.

He lost 10 children, and he got back 10 children.

Or did he?

Just like in the poem We Are Seven, maybe they never went away.

Good-grief I love the idea that we matter.

I was studying the Old Testament book of Job recently, and one of the commentators picked up on a detail that I had never noticed. At the beginning of the book, Job loses everything—his wealth, his livestock, his family. At the end of the book, we are told that God gives back to Job a double portion of everything that had been lost—twice as many animals, twice as much wealth. But Job gets back only the same number of children. Job lost ten children, and he’s given back ten children at the end of the book. Why is that? Perhaps because Job still had his original ten children. Perhaps they were not permanently lost. Job was not with them for a time, but maybe he will be reunited with them in heaven for all time.
