I have got to say it: Movies beat shows.
It’s true.
Movies are better.
Movies have a beautiful arc to them – the arc of a story.
I mean, it’s all there.
The character, the problem, the struggle, the realization, the success or failure.
In a lot of ways, the points of a story allegorically tell the problems we are all trying to solve.
And hey – if a movie is awful – at least it’s over in a few hours.
Shows though?
Shows have the tendency to wonder.
Time goes by and it feels like writers start making it up as they go.
We haven’t been canceled yet, so what else can we make the characters do?
Ideally, writers would package the arc of a story into each episode – and many do – but I find it quickly repetitive.
And the time commitment of a show?
Enough with the casual suggestions of 20 episodes per season covering 9 seasons at an hour per episode.
Have you no hobbies?
Don’t even get me started on the sunk cost of being 4 seasons into a show – still in production – that has turned boring, with no end in sight.
So go enjoy a movie.
Just try not to get caught up in the symbolism of it all.
