People are like trees in the sense that you can often tell what is going on the inside, why what happens on the outside.
If I am grumpy with an intern, snap at a coworker, and curse at a customer, people with start to wonder what is going on with me.
Or if I am crabby at home with my family, they may ask if something happened at work.
I think we hide much less than we think we do.
People seething with lust, greed, sloth, envy and pride points to one kind of internal state.
And people showing love, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control points to another.
Do you see it?
“Yep,” he continued, “folks are a lot like trees. You can know them by their fruit. You see, everyone produces one kind or another. In an orchard a quick examination of a piece of fruit can reveal a lot about the health of the tree. Without looking at the limbs, measuring the base, or inspecting the leaves, a single apple or pear can often tell you exactly what you need to know.”
