What are autonomous expenditures?
Autonomous Expenditures are expenditures that do not change as income changes.
A few examples?
- Food
- Rent
- Medicine
This is similar to the fixed costs of a business.
Some expenses are fixed, regardless of income – at least in the short-run.
See, although a drop in personal income from $30,000 per year to $15,000 per year means you still have to eat – it also means you might choose to eat cheaper foods.
