Taif Academy Field Day, Al Gaim Compound

[This is part of the series: A List of Things I Remember About Living In Saudi Arabia.]

I remember Taif Academy field day.

Do schools even do field days anymore?

The whole school, every class, was split between the Blue Team and the Red Team.

You competed individually in each event, but based on how you did, the team you were on was awarded points.

I remember standing at the top of the softball field bleachers and screaming: “We beat the blue, you can too!”

I tied for first place in the 200 meter and came in second in the 100 meter that year.

As the day wore on, I remember someone saying it was measuring something like 104 degrees in the shade.

We didn’t last long after that.

And it was so much fun, I don’t even remember which team won.
