Business Diversity Is Unsuitable?

I think that successful business diversity, that is, excellence in offering diversity can be insanely difficult.

You might successfully run the largest crop insurance company in the world, and you might can even dabble in futures and options or farm equipment insurance as a related business.

But you probably cannot run the largest oil refinery in the world or be the world leader in manufacturing airplane engines at the same time.

Holding companies, like Berkshire Hathaway, are the only way around this that I know of.

Maybe just stick to one thing. And be the best at it.

It would seem that many companies can be the best in the world at one or a few things, some can be best in the world at a handful of products in its portfolio, but almost no one can accomplish this feat with consistency across a broad spectrum.
