The best business security – the best security for a business – is to probably be a place that the mob hangs out.
I’m serious! (Kind of.)
First, the word is out. Your business is a known hangout. And anyone up to no good had better do it elsewhere unless they want trouble.
Second, a handful of tough-guys is the perfect kind of crew to have around when some ignorant bloke comes in and wants to rob the place or start something.
Of course, the entire situation might make one a little uneasy.
And then there is the possibility that some of their workplace violence follows them home too…
Can you imagine the poor staff, scared to walk back and ask if they wanted a refill on coffee?
The men sat in the back booth until closing. They talked in hushed tones. Sometimes there was a long silence, somebody mumbling, followed by an explosion of laughter. At such moments the back of the diner seemed to fill with teeth. Those moments made my great-grandmother nervous, but the men in the back tipped well, and they made the idea of the diner ever being robbed a kind of joke.
