What a leisure it is to let your mind wander a bit.
You know what I mean. Staring off into space.
Daydreaming.
Maybe you are walking, performing a mundane task, or simply looking out the window.
I often do it standing at the sink washing dishes.
But no matter how you let your idle mind free, there is certain rebelliousness to it (nobody on this earth gets to have agency over my mind’s meanderings).
Honestly, I am often frustrated how infrequently I am allowed this luxury these days.
It reminds me something of lazy late afternoons.
This can be the environment for life changing decisions too…
Some of my closest friends from college were headed to New York City to pursue a life in the arts—some in comedy, others in journalism and television—and I briefly considered joining them and starting anew. But I couldn’t quite let go of the question: Where did biology, morality, literature, and philosophy intersect? Walking home from a football game one afternoon, the autumn breeze blowing, I let my mind wander.
