I think it’s sobering and maybe even a little infuriating to know how big of a part that luck plays.
You have to show up to things.
Sports, work, art, music – whatever you are trying to accomplish – you have to show up and put in the time.
But will your career in that hit an inflection point?
That’s harder to say.
There are incredibly hard working and talented musicians waiting tables in Nashville.
And some landmen become billionaires while others may struggle.
And of course, some get lucky but fail to capitalize on the opportunity.
Thinking in bets starts with recognizing that there are exactly two things that determine how our lives turn out: the quality of our decisions and luck. Learning to recognize the difference between the two is what thinking in bets is all about.
