What if you stopped?
What if you stopped pursuing, whatever goals you are pursuing, right now?
Could you be at peace?
This is not about having persistence or deciding to quit.
This is about finding joy, regardless of the outcome. It’s about systems over goals. It’s about toil for the love of the toiling.
Understand: Van Gogh never sold a painting.
In that conversation Josh asked me, “What if you stopped now and never accomplished anything else? Would that be okay? Could you be happy with that?” I’m not sure how I responded, but I remember being extremely confused. Of course I couldn’t be happy with what I had accomplished. I had way too much to do! And how would I ever motivate myself to get anything done if I actually thought what I had accomplished was enough?
