Maybe we could all learn something from Samuel Pepys.
See, being content and happy is a funny thing. It’s mostly about perspective.
And a constant focus on what you don’t have is a ticket to sure displeasure – marketers and politicians know this.
The truth is that Pepys was a lifelong sufferer of bladder stones than made him constantly in pain.
I imagine he wrote this on a good day. But who knows?
To be 29 and content is a remarkable thing.
The British diarist Samuel Pepys reflected from time to time on the nature of happiness. In his entry for February 23, 1662, he wrote, “This day by God’s mercy I am 29 years of age, and in very good health, and like to live and get an estate and if I have
a heart to becontented , I think I may reckon myself as happy a man as any is in the world, for which God be praised. So to prayers and to bed.”
