The presidential politics of a natural disaster is a no-win for a president.
- If he/she does not visit the disaster site, they are insensitive and uncaring.
- If he/she visits the disaster site, they are in the way and are diverting needed resources.
The opposing political party gets to paint them as either mean or as narcissistic – regardless of what they do.
Then it is all a battle of perception, talking points, and pundits.
Maybe he/she looks good, maybe not.
But maybe that’s true for everything political.
I mean, in the end, the presidential politics of a natural disaster is just that: Politics.
