In short: To have an impact, to matter to others, we need to be known within a small group of people.
Our modern and urban pace of life seems to prevent this in nearly every single way.
But I remember glimmers of this, almost inescapable, knownness from living in Saudi Arabia. For the community was so small that it was hard to hide, even if you wanted to.
Christ had a narrow but deep impact as well, traveling little outside a small patch of land where, truly, everyone knew everyone.
