Not thinking makes you easily susceptible to accepting lies.
But…and now follow me here:
Discernment against lies is not always so easy.
This is because most of us think with our emotions.
Not you – I know – “them.”
And hauntingly, the tactics that are used to sell us certain things and vote for certain people can also be used to hurt us.
I have gotten where I think of this post on persuasion in nearly every political disagreement I see.
We are being manipulated, and the tactics are not an accident.
Understand: It works even if you recognize it.
“How fortunate for leaders,” Hitler said to his inner circle, “that men do not think. Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and
eventually they will believe it.” In Mein Kampf, Hitler’s autobiography, he wrote, “The great masses of the people will more easily fall victim to a big lie than a small one.”
