Writers Should Be Producers

[This is part of the series: 20 Writing Tips From John Erickson]

Is it true that aspiring writers should be producers only?

Honestly, I think reading is important too.

But that’s not what Erickson is talking about here.

He is talking about someone who says they want to write spending hours getting lost in Netflix, YouTube, and Twitter.

And to that I wholeheartedly agree.

If you want to be a writer – you should be spending half the day writing and half the day reading – without anyone telling you too.

9. Aspiring writers should be producers, not consumers.

-John Erickson, Story Craft (Amazon)
