Dogs Know Packing For A Trip

Dogs Know Packing For A Trip

Dogs know packing, don’t they?

I mean, really.

Have you ever packed for a trip without your dog knowing – like two days in advance that you were going?

They sense everything.

A tension starts in their shoulders, and soon they are slinking around hoping they get to go too.

In my experience though, cats are almost as bad.

The old cat from my childhood would jump into our suitcases and lay down on our clothes if we left the room for more than a few seconds.

It’s endearing, if you think about it.

After all, our pets just want to be with us.

Now, Charley is a mind-reading dog. There have been many trips in his lifetime, and often he has to be left at home. He knows we are going long before the suitcases come out, and he paces and worries and whines and goes into a state of mild hysteria, old as he is. During the weeks of preparation he was underfoot the whole time and made a damned nuisance of himself. He took to hiding in the truck, creeping in and trying to make himself look small.

A Dog Allows People To Begin A Relationship?

A Dog Allows People To Begin A Relationship?

Funny how a dog allows people to talk to each other.

It’s as if you are giving them permission to say something.

Try it.

People will not even look at you first though.

They look at the dog and smile. And then they smile at you.

Most likely, they will talk to the dog first too.

If you really want people to open up and talk though, when you take your dog for a walk, take your kids too.

A dog, particularly an exotic like Charley, is a bond between strangers. Many conversations en route began with “What degree of a dog is that?”
