Becoming A Wealthy Artist Is Not The Goal?

Is the dream not to become a wealthy artist?

It’s not for me, at least.

Although riches would be nice, the dream is having more time.

Time and freedom to create what you want to.

It seems to me that time and space is all that most writers and artists want.

Of course the hope is you do.Walt Disney said, “I don’t make pictures just to make money. I make money to make more pictures.” This is what most of us want: not to get rich off our creations but to have enough time and freedom to create what we want. We want to have the means to focus on what matters to us.

The Peak Moments

Ever blow through one of the peak moments in your life and not even realize it?

Or, maybe you realize it but it comes out as a blur anyway?

Honestly, I think it happens to all of us.

A wedding is a classic example of this.

Try it: Ask a newlywed couple 30 days after the wedding what they remember about that night.

It’s almost always a mashup story of not getting enough food or remembering everyone they talked to.

Like star football players, or seniors the last semester of high school, they eventually come back down to earth though – don’t they.

It was a peak moment in our lives and, though we did not realize it, a peak moment for them, too. These were young gods, as vivid as the astronauts in Tom Wolfe, as free as the cowboys in John Ford, gunslingers drinking rotgut and throwing dice, but it would not last. Before long, they would fall back to our world, rejoin the masses they left behind in tenth or twelfth grade.
