I feel this begging time to stop sensation already.
I feel it about grandparents, places have lived, and already people I have known.
Friends and family lost to death or time or distance, sure.
But most of it is simply precious moments lost in time.
Moments that can never be gotten back.
Makes me think of the passage about wanting a relationship “that can not be destroyed by death.”
Hopefully, we are focusing our energy on what matters.
Once again, I find myself caught in the ache of beauty and nostalgia of this book.
“We want things we cannot have. We seek to reclaim a certain moment, sound, sensation. I want to hear my mother’s voice. I want to see my children as children. Hands small, feet swift. Everything changes. Boy grown, father dead, daughter taller than me, weeping from a bad dream. Please stay forever, I say to the things I know. Don’t go. Don’t grow.”
