Random Thoughts – 393

Random Thoughts – 393

1. For the love of everything – quit using five sentences when one will do.

2. Does a journalist have to go to journalism school and work at a network? Does a business person have to go to business school and work at a Fortune 500?

3. Yesterday I dropped my phone while walking on the treadmill at the gym. The treadmill ate my phone in less than ten seconds, ground it to a pulp. 🙃

4. What’s the problem, really?

5. Gym days are the best days.

Gets To The Bottom Of Things

Gets To The Bottom Of Things

This is one of the things that I want in a boss, “someone who quickly gets to the bottom of things.”

The long and short of it is that I have little patience for the B.S. and the politicking that is so common in formal corporate settings.

So often:

  • If something goes wrong, things get twisted to blame someone else.
  • If something goes right, things get twisted to take the credit.
  • There is more concern over perception than solving problems.

Who in the world wants to work in a place like that? For a boss like that?

What are the fundamental issues holding us back?

What bottlenecks are stopping us from moving the needle?

And what is just sophistry?

Just kidding about that first sentence though…

I don’t want a boss at all. 🤣

Like so many people privy to these performances, Lyons came away with no illusions about Musk’s personality but with the utmost respect for his vision and drive to execute. “Working at Tesla back then was like being Kurtz in Apocalypse Now,” Lyons said. “Don’t worry about the methods or if they’re unsound. Just get the job done. It comes from Elon. He listens, asks good questions, is fast on his feet, and gets to the bottom of things.”
