Here’s my piece of advice, and I think, why I jotted this passage down.
If an idea is nagging you and you can’t seem to let it go – pursue it.
At the very least, give it a chance.
Maybe you fail, but at least you can know for sure and move on then.
I have seen a version of this done in regard to blogging.
Start a personal blog. Then start side blogs in niche ideas as you have them. Keep posting on the personal site. Side-blog projects that catch on become their own business or get sold. Side blog projects that fail get folded back into the personal blog. Repeat.
Here, I like the idea of small bets (below).
I CONTINUED TO PURSUE my studies and half believed I might try for a doctorate in philosophy and become a teacher, as teaching is, after all, a form of show business. I’m not sure what the purpose of fooling myself was, but I toyed with the idea for several semesters. I concluded that not to continue with comedy would place a question in my mind that would nag me for the rest of my life: Could I have had a career in performing? Everything was dragging me toward the arts; even the study of modern philosophy suggested that philosophy was nonsense.
