People hate that there is no truth in politics.
I mean, we know we are being manipulated.
And yet, even with that knowledge, the soundbite wins.
Why?
Is it just easier?
Perception is such an odd thing.
But don’t let that stop you.
Along with the politicians, you can use perception to your advantage.
Perception is reality, and reality is whatever I decide it to be. On controversial bills I sometimes vote ‘yes’ on a motion and ‘no’ on an amendment so I can claim I’m on either side of an issue. It’s the old shell game: if you can’t convince ’em, confuse ’em. Welcome to the congressional fantasyland of sound bites and slogans, where form prevails over substance, and no one really knows what the hell’s true and what’s false.
