Let the very fact that you got to be part of her life captivate you.

Because the odds of both of you existing at the same time are essentially zero.

You being with her – it’s like it’s destiny – or something.

Point out her gentleness. Tell her you’re proud when she has written something well or shown someone kindness —and tell her friends, too, when you see things in them. It’s tragic how many girls don’t have an admirer.

Be A Source Of Truth For Your Daughter

If you have a daughter, be a source of truth for her.

I mean, if you won’t do it, who will?

Maybe my heart is not in the right place, but I do not have a lot of compassion for people that lie to their children.

And there is a difference in not explaining every detail of a truth to a child that is maybe too young to understand, and telling an outright lie because it is more convenient.

Girls need as many strong, honest voices as they can have. They need us to acknowledge the pressures and the allure of sex. They need to be able to speak to us openly about these things —knowing we will not “freak out.” And they need us to speak truth to them —after we have heard and understood their perspective. They need our trust, our understanding, and our boundaries.
